The science and art of determining a drug in terms of its quality and quantity is challenging. As there is no 'second quality' in drugs, production of safe and potent drugs essentially require analytical technology. It plays a pivotal role from the analysis of minute amounts from complex biological samples to the quality control of finished dosage forms. The analytical results play decision making roles in pharmaceutical research and production. The department of Pharmaceutical Analysis was established in the year 2009. The M. Pharmacy course in Pharmaceutical Analysis was started in the same year.

The course is designed in order to fulfill the needs of pharmaceutical Industries in quality control & quality assurance departments. The student gets thorough knowledge on various classical and modern analytical techniques. National and international regulatory requirements with respect to quality of pharmaceuticals, food and cosmetics are also dealt.

The handling and trouble shooting of the sophisticated analytical instruments like HPLC, GC, UV Visible spectrophotometer, etc.

Exhaustive knowledge of analytical technology from classical chemical methods to modern analytical methods including bioanalysis.

The analytical and bioanalytical method development and validation, stability studies, impurity profiling, pharmacokinetic studies, study on drug interaction and poison analysis.

Career Opportunities

Student with post graduation in Pharmaceutical Analysis can design their career in the following fields.

Quality Control and Quality Assurance divisions of pharmaceuticals, food and cosmetic industries

In Contract Research Organizations as Bioanalytical Researchers.

Analytical research and development

The research laboratory in the department is equipped with sophisticated analytical instruments like High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with UV detector, Gas chromatography (GC) with FID detector, UV – VIS double beam/single beam Spectrophotometer, Fluorimeters, Flame Photometers, Brookfield Viscometer etc. The departmental activities are supported by the following well qualified and trained academicians.

Current area of research

The department carryout research work related to Method development and validation of formulated and finished drug products. We are escalating our work in the Bio analytical studies. We had involved in analysis of all the other research work irrespective of all the departments in the pharmacy
